French Toast
Crunch French Toast with Roasted Banana

There are a few locations of this place and we wound up at the location in Worldwide Plaza on 50th. That is not the location to go to because it is tiny! Through a series of misunderstandings with the host, though, we somehow got beyond lucky and were able to skip the 30-40 minute waiting time when we arrived on a Saturday for brunch. You must make a reservation if you plan to eat here during peak hours. Actually, I don’t think you can make a reservation, but you can call to put your name on the wait list or something to that effect. Otherwise, you will wait. And there really isn’t even much place to wait inside, so if it’s cold, be prepared to wait out there a while.

The service here is really great – at least our waiter was. He got our orders correct, despite both of us customizing them.

Egg White Omelette
Egg White Omelette, Potatoes and Side Salad

We got the egg white omelette with goat cheese, tomato, onion, spinach, and kale. It comes with roasted potatoes and a side salad. I ordered multi-grain toast in addition to that and our waiter said it would come complimentary upon request. The omelette was pretty delicious, made just the way I requested it. Good texture, good amount of ingredients, flavorful. The roasted potatoes were good, but nothing special, and I didn’t touch the side salad, so I can’t comment. I liked the multi-grain toast with it.

We also ordered the crunch french toast that came with roasted bananas on the side (despite the menu saying roasted pear) and asked for no powdered sugar on top. I am not a fan of french toast. As someone who does not like any form of sweet bread (crepes, pancakes, waffles, etc.), I’ve never been able to eat french toast either. This french toast is not the least bit sweet. It was actually quite delicious. I’ve never seen anything like it! Literally, I’d be surprised if there was even a hint of sugar in it. And great idea to make it crispy. I figured that would’ve meant something like battering it and then deep frying it, but it wasn’t even heavy. It’s a dish I could eat entirely myself, which is saying a lot.

A few pieces of complimentary banana nut bread are served to every table as an appetizer. Nice touch in a city and time when there are rarely complimentary appetizers outside of the fanciest places.

Really good experience overall and I definitely recommend, but next time I’ll probably go to a different location unless I have planned to call ahead!
