City Cakes Chocolate Chip Cookie
Half Pound Chocolate Chip Cookie

Never tried their cupcakes, but boy do they make fantastic cookies.

We get their chocolate chip cookie the most, which apparently and understandably is the best-selling one. Always a safe option, I guess. Other cookie options: Triple Chocolate, Ginger Spice, Oatmeal Raisin, Sugardoodle, Red Velvet, and Reese’s Peanut Butter.

The first time I went, I was between the chocolate chip cookie and the triple chocolate cookie. I ultimately went with the chocolate chip cookie because the triple chocolate cookie has cloves in it. I asked whether it was a predominant flavor in the triple chocolate cookie and she said it’s not overwhelming, but you can taste it. She wouldn’t give me a sample, but she let me smell the jar of cloves, which isn’t very helpful. But the bottom line is, I don’t like my chocolate cookies mixed with random spices, so I had to forgo the triple chocolate cookie for the regular. Not a big problem – the regular chocolate chip is great!

First, it’s huge. Not normal huge when people say “wow this is a huge cookie”. Not just thick like Levain cookies (see our review here), but like actually huge. Seriously. Their cookies are 1/2 pound. 8 oz. That’s the size of a filet mignon. For me huge, even exaggerated portions of a good thing are a definite plus.

Second, it’s honestly really good. Their chocolate chip cookie is not very sweet (huge plus!), so it doesn’t feel like you’re eating 1/2 pound of sugar. They use bittersweet chocolate, which helps. It’s well balanced with chocolate and dough.

Third, it’s a bit crispier around the outside, but as you get more into the center it’s pretty soft. Now I prefer my cookies super soft and chewy, not hard and crispy. I prefer them softer than most people, but this was definitely soft enough. Sure the outside edges were a bit crispier than I would like, but not more than most people would like, and definitely not burnt, charred, or anything off-putting. I also warmed it up in the microwave and it was great. Just great.

Yes, I did eat the entire cookie. But you could break this cookie in half and be fully satisfied. Highly recommend!
