Harrods Food Hall

Harrod's (4)Funnily enough, one of the best places to get American-style desserts in London is at the Harrods food hall. While most of their restaurants are quite expensive, the food hall tends to be reasonably priced with generous portions and on the whole, is quite good quality. We’ve had countless desserts from the food hall, but our two favorites are the dark chocolate layer cake (dense, rich, moist, not sweet) and the strawberry cheesecake (by far one of the better cheesecakes in London).

We’ve also tried their brownies (but please absolutely avoid the rose brownie – wow that is weird), sea-salt chocolate tart (really good except for the intense salt layer on top, though that can be easily avoided and the rest is just chocolate filling), black velvet cake (chocolate cake with cream cheese frosting), blueberry muffin cake, apple blackcurrant cheesecake (not good), classic cheesecake (avoid at all cost – the worst cheesecake we’ve had in London), and about 20 others that we’ve now lost track of. The portions, at least of the layer cakes, are relatively generous.

The fresh baked breads and scones are also worth trying and have never let us down.
