Cheesecake

We’ve been to this place several times, mainly for its cheesecakes, but also for the chocolate mousse cake. In a land where good cheesecakes are so hard to come by, this is one of the best places. They are said to be the oldest patisserie in London (established in 1871) and the décor somewhat matches. It’s not exactly a place where I’d be comfortable casually sitting for hours and it is quite small. But the quality of the desserts we’ve tried there makes this place worth a try – even if only for take away.

Chocolate Mousse Cake

The cheesecakes have a completely different consistency than most as they are creamier, more velvety, and not as solid, with a minimal layer of unusually soft biscuit.  These have amazing flavor, are not too sweet, and have a unique texture. The chocolate mousse cake is also delicious. It’s creamy, dense, chocolate mousse (not the lighter style mousses that you have some places) and it’s on top of a thin chocolate sponge.

Maison Bertaux is in a central area, so if you’re looking for a sweet fix, do drop by this place.
