Melt Chocolates

Melt (3)Yes! Melt is a chocolate shop in London serving great quality chocolates and treats. They are the only chocolate company that not only sells, but also makes its chocolates in Notting Hill. They have two boutiques, one in Notting Hill, the other in Holland Park, and a small shop at Selfridges. We’ve been to the shop in Notting Hill. It’s quite small with no real seating (3 tiny tables in a back room with no bathroom, service, or heating) and they don’t even have a huge selection of chocolates on site. I’d say perhaps 15 or so to choose from. Their house truffle is a plain milk chocolate truffle, but we opted to try the dark chocolate version of it. Fantastic! Great quality chocolate, lovely texture, crisp coating, soft center, and a fantastic, smooth taste. Most of their truffles are £1.75 per piece, but a few of them are priced by weight.

Melt (1)But the real selling point here is their hot chocolate. I love hot chocolate, and hey, I’ll take a bad hot chocolate over no hot chocolate any day, but it’s hard for me to find hot chocolates that I can truly call delicious. This one is and it’s absolutely worth going here to try it. It’s prepared daily (or multi-daily) and sits in a large pot that is kept warm. Though it isn’t overpoweringly rich, it is somewhat thick (think a consistency between normal hot chocolate and melting chocolate) and very satisfying. It is served in an espresso cup and, as far as I know, does not come in any other size.

Melt (2)Now I don’t think it’s rich or thick enough to merit such a small serving – it isn’t pure melting chocolate after all – but I do acknowledge it’s not something most people would want a 16 oz serving of, either. The hot chocolate costs £1.50 and is a blend of milk and dark chocolate. It’s a bit sweet, but not overly so, and is really delicious. Absolutely worth a visit.
