Ice Cream Flavors
Ice Cream Flavors

I’m torn between a 3.5 and 4 star, but I thought I’d round up because of the good customer service. We went on a pouring Saturday afternoon and almost no one was around. The guys behind the counter let us try all the flavors we wanted and collectively I think we tried about 10 of them. They totally get bonus points for being flexible and generous with their sampling and I really can’t stand places that aren’t.

They certainly have some interesting flavors like Thai Iced Tea, Ginger, Corn, Taro, etc. (in addition to the classics) but in this day and age, it’s nothing that hasn’t been done before. So, what has to set them apart is the quality, and I didn’t think they were fantastic. Either the texture and feel of the ice cream has to be amazing or the flavors have to be super bold and confident (and ideally both), but here, the texture was a bit icy and not as smooth as I’d like and the flavors were rather weak/mild. The Thai Iced Tea, for example, should’ve had a strong punch, but instead tasted a bit like plain milk. The chocolate flavors (plain and triple chocolate) had quite a weak chocolate taste. The cookies and cream, though it had real Oreos, was nothing special.

The ice cream is good, but certainly not one of the best around (or even in the neighborhood, which we have affectionately dubbed “The Iced Village” due to the abundance of artisan ice cream shops). But I appreciate the hospitality of the staff and that you get bang for your buck as the scoops are a generous size. Everywhere you go these days the ice cream parlors give these ridiculously small scoops that look to me like a tablespoon, but not here. One scoop is a really good scoop. I wish we’d liked it more, but still certainly not a bad option.
